Costume-Connections
Running a Costume-Con

Introduction

Welcome!

This on-line publication is intended to provide Costume-Con committees with a starting point for planning and running what we hope will be a successful weekend event.

This publication is NOT intended to dictate to committees the only way to run their event. If we did that, people wouldn't read it, and we would have wasted lots of our free time!

Costume-Con has a long history. Much longer than anyone ever expected when it was originally launched. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since the first Costume-Con in 1983, and a lot of lessons have been learned by the people who were responsible for bringing the conference to fruition each year.

By presenting this document, we hope to help future committees avoid some of the pitfalls we have encountered, and to give some guidance when trying to make decisions that will affect the overall outcome of the event.

This publication draws heavily on several sources, including a reading committee (listed in Acknowledgements), the WorldCon Runner's Guide, the Kennedy Masquerade Compendium, and documentation available from previous Costume-Cons, including Costume-Cons Fifteen and 16.

We expect that this first edition will leave something out. It is nearly impossible to cover all bases. But, with the help of future con committees, we hope to patch some of these holes as this publication evolves.

If you have any questions concerning the contents of this publication, please contact the editor.

Thanks, and have a successful Costume-Con!
