Programming
Programming is a vital part of any Costume-Con and CC19 will have lectures, demonstrations, panel discussions and workshops that cover a wide range of interests and levels of experience. Confirmed workshops include: millinery, spinning, blackwork, wired ribbon flowers, beadwork (beginner and advanced) and polymer clay dolls. Participants will be signed up in a first-come, first-served basis. If classes fill early, we may be able to repeat them. A varying fee to cover costs will be charged, depending on the materials.
Other confirmed programming items include:
- What is Costume-Con all about?
- Elizabethan shirts
- Colour and character in design
- Texture in costume
- Draping a bustle
- Ethnic belly dance costume
- Decorating stretch fabrics
- Research and documentation
- Tailored collars and lapels
- Recreating the 1901 Presentation Dress from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion
- Changing specialties F/SF to Historical and vice versa (two panels)
We are hoping to inspire some lively conversations at our "roundtable" discussions in the hospitality suite. Topics that have been suggested: best/worst costume movies, costume widows/widowers/orphans, the amusing world of theatre costuming, birds vs. cats as pets for costumers, costuming for and with kids. We are looking for suggestions no expertise required, just opinions! If you wish to moderate one or more of these discussions, there is a sign-up sheet in this report. If you wish to suggest a topic for a panel, lecture or demo, or volunteer for same, write it in the space provided and we will do our best to include you in the action!
We plan to have one more programming update mailed out before the convention, and you can always check the web site, where the schedule will be posted before the convention.
The only thing I have left to say is that I urge you to bring a notebook, and enjoy learning at CC19.
